Six years ago, we had a book reviewed by a Barnes & Noble representative. Having been in this situation hundreds of times, we felt that we had our pitch down. At the meeting, the rep took us completely off guard by asking questions about the author: “Tell me about the author’s following. How many followers on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn does the author have? Does the author do any speaking?” And the most important: “How is the author going to help us sell these books?”
We knew at that point the evolution of the publishing industry was complete; it would be crucial for authors to have a tribe. If you want your books sold in bookstores, or for people to buy them online, you must build a community. Content: Your book will only sell tens of thousands of copies if people you don’t know are telling others you don’t know about your book. This means the content has to be incredible! You must make the necessary investment in your fiction or nonfiction book, if you want the best book possible. We strongly encourage you to speak to your publishing consultant about this C.
The third C, Credibility, is what our marketing and publicity program is all about. When we are ready to present your book to bookstores, we want to make sure that we can answer any questions. If you have the right credibility (online presence, strong following on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, ReadersLegacy & Youtube, combined with a strong Klout Score), then you will inevitably have more people following you, which leads to our fourth and final C – Community.
Once you have entered into a publishing agreement with us, your publishing consultant will do a free review of your current credibility. The consultant will suggest a number of things you can do to enhance you influence. For instance, you may be the perfect candidate for one of our twelve-month credibility enhancement marketing programs, or you may only need to utilize a couple of our services, independent of a program or package.
